So called sugar free foods (such as cookies or candies & ice creams)

often are not sugar free because they have carbohydrates from the

flour or milk.

Some are made with sugar alcohols such as maltitol or sorbitol.

“people with diabetes absorb about half the carbohydrates listed

as sugar alcohol” says Gillian Arathuzik from the Joslin Diabetes C

Center in Boston.

So if the label says 10 grams of sugar alcohol count it as 5 grams

of carbohydrates. Beware that large amounts can cause diarrhea or gas.

I wanted to share this with you to show you that sugar free foods

are not sugar free and just because the food label says sugar free,

it does not mean the food item has no sugar.

please read the labels on anything that purports to be low- carbohydrates.

That keeps you from falling prey to a dishonest marketing tactic

implored by many food companies to get people who are

livin’ la vida low- carbohydrates to buy their products. They use phrases like

“no sugar carbohydrates ” or even put “low carbohydrates ” right on the box and it’s

anything but.  This is what I call counterfeit or deceitful advertising.

Most people find the nasty side effects just a teeny weeny bit too uncomfortable

to indulge too often in products containing maltitol. I know I try to

avoid them as much as possible myself because the gas they cause is

very painful and disgusting.

So beware of the fact that in this world nothing is FREE and even Sugar Free. Every time you intake Sugar Free you are taking Sugar in any amount.
