Before starting with gluten free diet plan let us look at the importance of fiber. Fiber is a very important nutrient in a balanced diet besides protein, vitamin, carbohydrates, minerals and fat. It helps in digestion, lowers cholesterol, prevents constipation and reduces the risk of some chronic diseases. It is often advise by a doctor to add fiber to the diet of the patients especially suffering from diverticulosis, diabetes, and heart disease as fiber adds bulk and makes you feel full faster with fewer calories thus helping you to eat less and control your weight. But do you know that fiber has become a great challenge for the patient suffering from celiac.

The most common sources of dietary fiber along with fruits and vegetables are whole grain breads and cereals and oddly people on gluten free diets simply cannot purchase whole grain products because majority of packaged high-fiber products contain gluten which is dangerous for their health. And therefore they face the problems of inadequate supply of fiber in their regular diet. Prior to progressing with the issue of getting fiber for the celiac patient it is important for us to know how much fiber we need. Intake of fiber differs from age to age. For adolescents and adults 20-35 grams per day is recommended while a child needs to have plus 5 to his/her age. To make it clear if a child is 10 years old then add 5 to 10 and the answer is 15 that means the 10 years child 15 grams of fiber in his/her diet daily. It should also be noted that adding too much of fiber too quickly in your diet can cause gas, bloating, and cramps. So it is advisable to add fiber in your diet slowly and gradually.

If you are a celiac patient then it becomes important for you to be cautious in regards to what sorts of foods you are eating and work with your doctor to create a fiber gluten free diet plan. There are plenty of naturally gluten-free high-fiber foods but then again it is reminded to talk to your doctor who can properly plan your diet with right proportion. Since celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and have greater chances to interfere with the body’s absorption of nutrients from food so it is said that the person suffering from such deadly disease should be on a low fiber gluten free diet.

Despite of restrictions that you may have due to this disease you can still make your diet well balanced and enjoying and for that you need to make some research. It should be remembered that you can eat anything except foods that contain wheat, rye, or barley. Though it is difficult to follow the new routine of diet with a whole new approach to living but then you need to be open and be willing to accept this because there are no other options left for you. If you can fight the cravings for certain food that is not good for your health then your cravings will almost be gone. Plain meat, fish, rice, fruits and vegetables are good for you but make sure that there is no gluten before consuming it.
